Family Gatherings

So if you didn't get it from the title of my blog, I am Greek. I was born in the US live with my 2 sisters and parents. We own a dinner and ALL my family at some point has worked in it.

One summer my father decided that we needed a pool to keep us girls happy. So he gets the pool, and since that summer my house has been the go to house, for summer fun.

That summer my mother invited about 35 of our closest cousins and aunts to the house on a Wednesday for a family get together. FOR that whole summer and subsequent summers after that Wednesdays have been daubed by my mother "cousins day".I cannot count the number of times i have found various relative in our pool when, i wasn't home. I love having family over, but sometimes you just want to enjoy your house and pool without having screaming little kids around, or being splashed to death.

The most recent family dinner that my mother had, she invited her aunt over. So that means my great-aunt and uncle came over with their 2 daughters, my aunts. Then you have my 2 uncles, my moms brothers, and my uncles wife and their 3 kids my first cousins. You also have my great aunts annoying grandson how is daubed the destroyer form hell and is in his terrible twos over my house for dinner. And my sisters fiance for dinner, in total thats 16 people for dinner, and thats a small dinner, with only three families.

However that does not include the people or family that just stopped by after church for coffee and to help my mom make dinner since my sisters and I were running the coffee shop. I come home smelling like freaking bacon to another aunt, with her 3 sons all ages form 7-8, the youngest being my god brother, and one of my moms closest friends at my house before the guests actually arrived.

I just love my family gatherings

  1. Joanna, please watch the type-os and the grammar issues. They are distracting. And I would like to know more about how your family is different from any other big family. Do you guys speak Greek to one another? What kinds of foods do you eat that might be perceived as different?
If you are going to give us a look at your Greek life, let us see the "Greek-ness" of it.

  3. ahh i know how it feels like to come home and see little cousins tearing up your room. But you have a huge family pretty much like the stereotypical Greek family like in My Big Fat Greek Wedding that's a good movie.

  4. that is crazy. i love having people over but not so much family. maybe its because i only have two realitives outside my immediate three family household. and those are my old fashion grandparents. but boy do they have stories.

  6. I thought my family from my mom's side of my family in Israel was a lot. But your family tops mine by far.
